Signs of a hidden leak
Most water leaks never show themselves. They sit under concrete slabs, behind wall cavities or beneath the garden, quietly running up your bill and damaging the structure of your home. If you recognise any of the following, call a licensed leak detection plumber before the damage spreads.
A sudden spike with no change in household use is the most common sign of a concealed leak. A running leak can waste thousands of litres a week.
Staining on walls, ceilings or skirting boards, peeling paint or lifting tiles usually means water is escaping behind the surface.
If you hear water moving with every tap turned off, there is pressure escaping somewhere in the line. This one needs attention quickly.
Soggy ground, unusually green grass or a section of lawn that never dries out often sits directly above a broken underground water or sewer pipe.
Losing pressure across multiple outlets, rather than just one tap, points to water escaping before it reaches your fixtures.
Persistent mould, a damp smell with no obvious cause, or a warm spot on the floor can all indicate a slab leak underneath the house.
Our process
The old approach was to guess, then excavate until the pipe turned up. We use non-invasive detection equipment to pinpoint the exact location first, so the repair is targeted and your floors, driveway and garden stay intact.
Ground microphones and listening equipment pick up the sound of water escaping a pressurised pipe, even under concrete.
Infrared cameras read temperature differences through walls and floors to reveal moisture paths invisible to the eye.
Isolating and pressure testing each line confirms whether a leak exists and narrows down exactly which section has failed.
For sewer and stormwater lines, a camera inspection shows cracks, root intrusion and collapsed sections on screen.
Leaks we locate and repair
You may be able to claim the water back
If a concealed leak has caused a high water bill, Sydney Water may credit part of the excess usage back to you. To apply, you need the leak repaired by a licensed plumber and a completed plumber’s report confirming the location, the cause and the date of repair.
We complete that paperwork for you as part of the job, so you have everything you need to lodge the claim. Eligibility and conditions are set by Sydney Water, so we will tell you honestly whether your situation is likely to qualify before you go to the trouble.
